Forward-looking: LG G series and C series OLED televisions have long been praised as being excellent for both TV viewing and big-screen gaming. Next year’s LG G5 set could be even better for gamers, having just been certified for a 165 Hz refresh rate at a 4K resolution.

Both the LG C5 and G5 have been certified for sale in South Korea ahead of their official announcement at CES 2025, writes FlatpanelsHD. The world’s largest consumer electronics event takes place in just a few weeks (January 7 to January 11) in Las Vegas.

The entry in Korea’s Institute of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Testing’s database confirms LG is sticking with its naming scheme for its next generation of OLED televisions.

There are also photos of the two sets in the database. While there do not appear to be any major design changes, it seems that the G5 will still use the brighter MLA OLED panel with a different anti-reflective solution.

What’s especially interesting is that the LG OLED65G5 model has been certified for a 165Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution.

The LG OLED TVs are popular with gamers for their features, including VRR compatibility, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Game Optimizer and Dashboard, Dolby Vision Gaming, and low input lag. They also offer 120Hz refresh rates, which was updated to 144Hz in the 2024 models.

There’s always the chance that this could be a typo, but it seems unlikely as the model in question has achieved a ClearMR score of 10,000, up from 9,000 on the 2024 models with 144Hz refresh rate. As a reminder, a ClearMR score is calculated as the ratio of clear pixels to blurry pixels during motion.

We named the LG C2 and C3 the best 4K HDR large displays for gaming in this 2023 feature. We noted that the C3 offers unparalleled dimming and the ability to show bright and dark objects close together with no blooming or haloing issues.

The TV gets extremely dark for shadow detail, shows true zero level blacks, and is capable of bright highlights over 700 nits in real world content. It also has a glossy screen with great reflection handling which makes colors pop and HDR shine.
